The Sugar Association extends its congratulations to the recently appointed members of the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.

The Committee—made up of experts within the scientific and public health communities—is charged with updating the guidelines over the course of the next two years, and is aided in its evaluation of the body of evidence, by the input of health experts and public comments.

“We look forward to participating in the process, and anticipate that America’s dietary recommendations will be based on sound, scientific principals,” commented CEO and president, Andrew Briscoe. “For our part, the Sugar Association will submit science-based comments which support the fact that sugar (sucrose), in moderation, continues to play an important role in a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle—as it has for the past 2,000 years.”

The Department of Health and Human Service and the United States Department of Agriculture will jointly publish the new guidelines in the fall of 2015.
